PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN UNDERGROUND
The Presbyterian Women
have initiated a special offering to help offset expenses for remodeling the church basement to facilitate our upcoming youth programs, sprucing up our fellowship space and our aging but much-used kitchen.
Please contact Louadah Waggoner for more details or to give to this much-needed cause.
PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN
You are cordially invited
to a
SALAD LUNCHEON & TEA !
The annual salad luncheon for PW women (daytime and evening) in the Mountain Cluster will be held May 6, 2008 at 12:00 in the Hospitality Room of the Alpine Presbyterian Church. We will be their guests and there will be no charge. An inspiring speaker will follow the luncheon. The Alpine ladies always have a delicious variety of salads. Please show your appreciation by attending. Let Lanna know if you will be attending. All are welcome to attend.
MUSEUM OF THE BIG BEND, located on the campus of Sul Ross University in Alpine annually hosts TRAPPINGS OF TEXAS, a custom cowboy gear and fine western art show. The display runs through this March and April.
Why is this news? You certainly don't have to be a Presbyterian to visit the museum, and it isn't in Fort Davis. But Fort Davis Presbyterians are strongly represented there, especially this spring.
FDPC member Larry Francell is the museum's award-winning director, the force behind this little-known area treasure. If you haven't visited this new museum, (it only opened last fall) you don't really know Larry and chief advisor Beth Francell yet. Year-round, the museum is an interesting place to spend half-an-hour or an afternoon, a must-see tourist tour, a concise course in Far West Texas, its land, its history, its people. It's also free. Take the kids--Larry believes that's what a museum is really for.
During Trappings, you can also view a trio of Lindy Severns landscape paintings, all centered around Point of Rocks, (one is a view down Doris Smith's road).

Another trio of oils shows local buildings by sometime visitor to our area and to our church, Santa Fe artist David Loren Bass.
Now: If you are a member of our church who would like to read member news about something/ someone other than museums and artists, please don't complain about this instance of blatant self-promotion.
Instead, email Margie Ferguson at the church office or web designer Lindy Severns with news about what you and yours are doing! (Or, simply complain to Larry Francell, who had nothing to do with this message and who has been so busy, he probably doesn't even know it exists.)
Our special thanks to Jeff Davis County's volunteer fire fighters for their untiring vigilance during the Limpia Crossing fire. Not to mention the many smaller fires that stayed small because of this dedicated team! Our community doesn't take you guys for granted. (FDPC's Tony Lannom, Matt Miles and Jim Severns donate their time and energy to this all volunteer force.)

WOMEN'S SPRING GATHERING
Tres Rios Presbyterian Women's Spring Gathering is in El Paso on April 12 at First Presbyterian Church. There will be worship, installation of new officers and the celebration of the birthday
of Presbyterian Women. The Gathering will begin Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. with a continental breakfast and coffee. Keynote speakers will be Sherry Flier, Vice Moderator for Mission Relationships and Marta Rodriguez, Chair, USA Mission Experience 2008, El Paso/Juarez.
In addition to our regular business, special luncheon guests will be members of Willie Hall Black's family as we recognize and celebrate the Barstow Congregation's gift to the Willie Hall Black-Barstow Scholarship Fund.
Registration forms of the Spring Gathering may be received from Sara, Lanna or Louadah.
The Gathering offers a chance to meet the new officers, be informed as to the activities of our Tres Rios Presbyterian Women and to receive the spiritual and the warm fellowship with the other women.

SPRING ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
DISCUSSION: "BIBLE 101"
Matt Miles is currently moderating an adult study/discussion based on the pamphlet:
BIBLE FOR THE BEWILDERED AND PRAYER FOR THE TONGUE-TIED.
Books for this interactive study are available at the church or in class. This is a short, basic how-to book on Bible study and prayerful Christian growth. The study continues through the spring. Like past classes, discussion is lively and thought-provoking. (For maximum benefit, bring an open mind and be willing to share your thoughts as we go.)
Adult Class begins at 10 am each Sunday. Come a little early for coffee and for catching up.

The newly formed Presbyterian Singers, a happily talented gathering of voices under the direction of Sara Pierce debuted in February to a crowd of awestruck worshipers who've grown too accustomed to the sometimes timid, sometimes off-key sounds of our own voices. (Worshipful as our voices raised in song may be, the sound doesn't compare!)
Stessa Miles was the featured vocalist for February. (For those of us privileged to hear Stessa's solo on Christmas Eve, this time we sort of missed the single wailing sob of son Jeremy, burned by dripping candle wax just as his mother struck a high note... Anyway, she had to do this last one solo. and it was still wonderful.)
The Singers (Sara insists they're not a choir, although they could've fooled a lot of us out in the pews) plan a musical offering once a month.
Jim Hall, longtime professional singer and bass guitarist was the featured vocalist for our Good Friday Tenebrae service and on Easter Sunday. (Jim plays in a couple of area bands-- ask him where he'll perform next!)
Sara and the Singers are still recruiting. If you can sing, volunteer! Of course, with such voices as they've gathered to date, eager new recruits good at lip- synching probably don't even have to be able to sing--although I'm sure that ability would be much appreciated.
Please! Send in news!
We want to know
what you're doing--
what your kids are doing--
what church members are doing!
Check this page often to find out what's happening out there in our congregation. Email news and announcements to Lindy, or drop them by the church office.
We do ask that you deliver prayer concerns directly to Matt, Margie or one of our elders.
Prayer is personal, often confidential, so we won't post prayer concerns on our website.
